Psalm 78:19 — They spoke against God; they said, “Can God really spread a table in the wilderness?

One day Linus and Charlie Brown were talking about their problems. Linus said, “I don’t like to face problems head on. I think the best way to solve problems is to avoid them. In fact, it is a distinct philosophy of mine. No problem is so big or so complicated that it can’t be run away from!”[1].

This story, though not explicitly, might be the story of many persons. Instead of running to God when there is a problem, the first set of decisions take them away from God. The Israelites faced many difficulties after coming out of Egypt. However, their first response to the challenges was to not trust in God to satisfy. The writer of Psalm 78 really summarized their attitude in verse 19. Can God really spread a table in the wilderness? The rhetorical answer of doubt would be no!

But let us ask the question again, only that this time we are asking it believing that God can do the impossible? Can God spread a table in the wilderness? Oh, the refreshment to the soul when it places confidence in God. Jeremiah 32:17 says, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Regardless of the wilderness you are going through right now, God can spread a table so that you will be well nourished during these times. When we need dinner God always provide a diner. Will you believe God to spread a table for you? Or will you doubt God’s power like the Israelites did?
